Background Established as a legacy of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) through a partnership between UNDP and the Government of Brazil, the RIO+ Centre provides a hub for broad based dialogue and action that can help shift paradigms and contribute practical solutions for the achievement of a more equitable and sustainable world.

As such, RIO+ works with people and institutions to inform policies and practices that lead to concrete improvements in human well-being. It does this by working towards the following objectives:

 Produce and disseminate evidence on policies and practices that are successfully addressing the social, economic and environmental dimensions of equitable development

 Trigger broad-based dialogue around action around the development, implementation and monitoring of sustainable human development

 Strengthen coalition building and networking for the increased participation and voice of underrepresented institutions, countries and communities in the adoption of equitable development at the national and global level As a global Centre based in the Global South, RIO+ aims to bolster South-South Cooperation and facilitate the participation of traditionally excluded and underrepresented countries in national and international efforts on sustainable development. The RIO+ Centre is seeking to engage an intern who is passionate about international sustainable development issues and the Sustainable Development Goals. Duties and Responsibilities Under the guidance of and reporting directly to the Deputy Director, the intern will be responsible for the following activities:

 Provide assistance with background research (qualitative and quantitative) on RIO+ topics

 Support research on data and analysis to strengthen the quality of publications produced.

 Provide support in compiling, revising, and producing policy briefs, blogs and other knowledge products of the RIO+ team.

 Extract key messages from publications that can be used for advocacy and communication work.

 Support the policy team as needed with additional activities related to events, presentations, planning, etc.

Required Skills and Experience Education:

Enrollment in post-graduate degree in Sustainable Development, International Relations or related development field.

Experience:

 At least one year of relevant work experience

 General knowledge in research and research methodology

 General knowledge of sustainable development issues in the context of international development and the work of the United Nations Language:

 Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are essential, working knowledge of Portuguese is a strong asset Competencies:

 Strong analytical skills, and ability to rapidly analyze and integrate diverse information from varied sources

 Highly developed research assistance skills

 Computer literate; must be able to use the Internet and other online tools effectively

 Ability to work independently and to organize and prioritize activities and assignments;

 Teamwork - excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work within multi-disciplinary teams.

 Promotes the vision, mission, and strategic goals of UNDP.
